Wills & Probate Costs
As part of the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s Transparency Rules, as a firm of solicitors we are required to provide price information and service in respect of certain areas of law including Wills & Probate.
Wills – Costs
Whilst we appreciate that clients’ individual assets vary and certain instructions will be more complex than other, at Brar & Co we will provide you with a fixed fee quotation as shown below:
- Single Simple Will – from £249 + VAT
- Mirror simple Wills- from £275 + VAT
- Single Trust Will – from £595 + VAT
- Mirror Trust Wills – From £695 + VAT
Please note that once we have met with you in person or over the telephone and discussed your personal circumstance and taken full instructions the abovementioned quotation may be subject to change.
Our experience team are excellent negotiators and will attempt to reach an early resolution without the need of protracted court proceedings, but please rest assured if settlement proves unattainable, we will represent you in court and protect your best interests.
Probate Costs
We appreciate that every estate will be different, and it is often difficult at the early stage to provide an accurate estimate of the professional legal charges before we take your full instructions and ascertain the assets and complexities of the estate.
We endeavour to transparent with our clients and offer the following packages to assist you with the administration of the estate:
Our “Grant Only” Package – IHT 205
This package is suitable for families who require services to obtain the Grant of Probate or Letters of Administration only and then wish to onwardly administer the estate themselves.
This is also suitable in situations where a deceased dies during the conveyancing sale and the grant is required to effect disposition of a property. This involves you providing to us a list of all assets and liabilities in the estate with supporting evidence and then we generate the IHT 205 and HMCTS Statement of Truth Oath for the Executors / Administrators Signature and submission to the Probate registry.
£950.00 plus VAT
This quote is for estates where:
- There is a valid will or simple intestacy (less than 3 beneficiaries)
- There is no more than one property
- There are no more than 3 bank or building society accounts / investments
- There are no other intangible assets
- There are no known disputes. If disputes arise this is likely to lead to an increase in costs.
- There is no inheritance tax payable and the executors do not need to submit a full account to HMRC • There is no foreign property
- There are no claims made against the estate
- We will not communicate to any financial institutions / beneficiaries within this package either before or after the Grant application and on granting of the Grant it will be forwarded to the Executors/Administrators for onward estate administration
Disbursements included in the package:
- Probate application fee of £273.00 plus £1.50p for every copy of the Grant needed.
- Bankruptcy-only Land Charges Department searches (£2 per deceased and Executor)
- £250-350.00 Trustee Act Notice – Post in The London Gazette & Local Newspaper – Protects against unexpected claims from unknown creditors. This disbursement is determined by the Newspapers.
Our “Grant Only” Package – IHT 400
This package is suitable for families who require us to provide services to obtain the Grant of Probate or Letters of Administration only and then they wish to administer the estate themselves. This is also suitable in situations where a deceased dies in the middle of a conveyancing sale and the grant is needed to progress the sale. This involves you providing to us a list of all assets and liabilities in the estate with supporting evidence and then we generate the IHT 400 and HMCTS Oath (or equivalent) for the Executors / Administrators Signature and submission to the Probate registry.
£1,995.00 plus VAT
This quote is for estates where:
- There is a valid will or simple intestacy (less than 5 beneficiaries)
- There is no more than one property
- There are no more than 3 bank or building society accounts / investments
- There are no other intangible assets
- There are no known disputes. If disputes arise this is likely to lead to an increase in costs.
- There have been no lifetime gifts of any nature
- There are no trust assets
- There is no foreign property
- There is Inheritance tax payable, and the Executors do not need our assistance to arrange payment of the Inheritance tax
- There are no claims made against the estate.
- We will not communicate to any financial institutions / beneficiaries within this package either before or after the Grant application and on granting of the Grant it will be forwarded to the Executors / Administrators for onward administration

Full Package
If you require a full bespoke package, then we are happy to quote for the same.
Typically, there is an hourly rate of £250.00 per hour and possibly a percentage of the estate which can typically range between 1 – 3% depending on the value of the estate.
Value
under £100,000 – 3%;
between £100,000.00 to £200,000.00 – 2.75%
between £200,000.00 to £300,000.00 – 2.5%
between £300,000.00 to £400,000.00 – 2%
Over £400,000.00 – 1%
